Egypt Holidaymakers Stunned by Monster Inc Character Poolside Surprise

Egypt remains one of the most popular holiday destinations for British travellers, attracting approximately one million UK nationals annually with its compelling mix of ancient historical sites, exceptional marine activities, and reliable winter sunshine. While many visitors enjoy exploring pyramids and diving in the Red Sea, countless tourists also appreciate simply lounging by the pool and soaking up the warm Egyptian rays during their break.

Unexpected Poolside Entertainment Leaves Sunbathers Baffled

However, holidaymakers at one Egyptian resort received considerably more than they anticipated during what should have been a tranquil afternoon of poolside relaxation. Paolito Entertainment, a company specialising in hotel and resort entertainment, shared a remarkable video showing bewildered tourists being approached by someone dressed as Michael Wazowski, the distinctive green, one-eyed character from the animated film Monster's Inc.

The surreal scene captured the costumed entertainer energetically jumping on sunbeds as holidaymakers attempted to ignore the unexpected intrusion. Adding to the peculiar spectacle, another performer dressed as Cheburashka, the beloved fictional character from Russian children's literature, accompanied the Monster's Inc impersonator throughout the bizarre performance.

Paolito Entertainment captioned their social media post showcasing the unusual entertainment with the phrase "Hotel-style entertainment done right," though reactions from both the tourists in the video and online viewers proved decidedly mixed.

Mixed Reactions to Unconventional Resort Entertainment

The social media post quickly accumulated 178,000 likes as viewers shared their perspectives on the unconventional entertainment approach. Some observers found the scenario highly amusing, with one commenter describing it as "their dream" encounter while another enthusiastically stated, "I wish this would happen to me."

However, not all reactions were positive. Several viewers expressed discomfort with the surprising approach, with one person admitting, "That looks terrifying," and another noting, "They don’t look very entertained." A third commenter confessed, "Don't want to know who is inside there," while someone else questioned, "What the heck Cheburashka doing out there?"

Current Travel Safety Guidance for Egypt Destinations

As of April 2026, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office maintains that major tourist destinations throughout Egypt remain generally safe for British travellers, though specific warnings apply to certain border and desert regions. The FCDO continues to advise against all travel to the North Sinai Governorate due to ongoing security operations and terrorism risks.

Additional travel restrictions include:

  • Egypt-Libya Border: All travel within 20km of the border is advised against, except for El Salloum where only essential travel is recommended.
  • Western Desert: All but essential travel to areas west of the Nile Valley and Nile Delta is discouraged, excluding major tourist sites like Luxor, Qina, Aswan, Abu Simbel, and Faiyum Governorate.
  • Northern South Sinai: All but essential travel beyond the St Catherine-Nuweibaa road is advised against, though coastal areas remain accessible.
  • Ismailiyah Governorate: All but essential travel to areas east of the Suez Canal is discouraged.

The FCDO does not currently advise against travel to Egypt's primary tourist hubs, which include major cities like Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor, and Aswan, along with popular Red Sea resorts such as Sharm el-Sheikh, Hurghada, and Marsa Alam where this unusual entertainment incident occurred.
