Marcus Rashford Could Seek Barcelona Revenge with Real Madrid Move
Rashford Could Seek Barcelona Revenge with Real Madrid

Marcus Rashford faces a difficult situation as his dream move to Barcelona appears increasingly unlikely. The Catalan club has until June 15 to trigger a £26 million purchase option in the loan agreement for the Manchester United academy graduate.

Rashford played a key role in Barcelona's La Liga title win last season, but the club's reluctance to make the deal permanent is telling. Despite spending nearly £70 million on Anthony Gordon, Barcelona hesitates over Rashford's wages, though a compromise could have been reached if both parties were keen.

Uncertain Future

Uncertainty now surrounds Rashford's next move. Reports from Sport claim that Jose Mourinho, who is set to take over at Real Madrid, could target the 28-year-old. Mourinho coached Rashford at Manchester United between 2016 and 2018, during which Rashford scored 28 goals and provided 21 assists in 125 appearances (69 starts).

If Rashford holds any resentment towards Barcelona, joining Real Madrid would be the ultimate revenge. Javier Saviola was the last player to cross the divide between the two clubs, but Luis Figo's move from Barcelona to Real in 2000 caused far greater outrage. A switch to Real would shatter Rashford's reputation at Camp Nou.

Other Options

Rashford has other options, including Premier League champions Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Aston Villa, where he spent the second half of last season on loan. However, a move to a rival for Champions League qualification or a title challenge may not suit Manchester United.

A loan return to Barcelona would also not benefit United. Selling Rashford to Real Madrid could be an attractive option, as United would not have to worry about him returning to haunt them, barring a European clash.

Real Madrid are one of the few clubs outside English football's top tier that can afford both the transfer fee and Rashford's wages. Ultimately, the decision rests with the winger, who has plenty to ponder this summer.
