Lucas Moura has admitted he 'thought about it a lot' after his move to Manchester United collapsed. The Brazil winger, now 33, was close to joining the Premier League club before Paris Saint-Germain hijacked the deal at the last minute.
How the transfer fell apart
Moura impressed for Sao Paulo and the Brazil national team while still a teenager, attracting interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils believed they had a deal wrapped up, but PSG sporting director Leonardo Araujo intervened. 'I was very close to joining Manchester United. It nearly happened but, at the last minute, Leonardo called me and spoke to me and my parents,' Moura told The Telegraph. 'It was a very difficult moment because suddenly I had to make a choice when I thought I was joining Manchester United.'
Moura's career path
After six years at PSG, Moura moved to Tottenham Hotspur for approximately £25 million. He made 221 appearances for the north London club across six seasons, helping them reach the 2019 Champions League final. In 2023, he returned to Sao Paulo, where he remains today.
United's current transfer struggles
Manchester United are now pursuing Brazilian midfielder Ederson, but that deal is also in jeopardy after medical concerns over a knee injury. A £35 million fee plus £3.8 million in add-ons had been agreed, but additional tests have complicated negotiations. United remain willing to sign the 27-year-old, though sources in Italy suggest the deal is dead and Atalanta may offer Ederson a new five-year contract.
