Pub chain Wetherspoon has launched its annual January sale, offering punters significant discounts on drinks and food across hundreds of its venues. The promotion, which mirrors the post-Christmas sales seen in retail, is now live in 600 participating pubs and will run until January 15.
What's on offer in the drinks sale?
The headline offer is a pint of Worthington’s beer for just 99p. The sale also features a selection of discounted spirits and wine, including a 250ml glass of Coldwater Creek wine for £2.99 and 25ml measures of Johnnie Walker Black Label or Tanqueray gin, each including a mixer, for £1.99.
Recognising the growing demand for alternatives, the chain has included a wide array of low and non-alcoholic options. These are priced at £1.69 each and include popular brands like Guinness 0.0, Corona Cero, and Brewdog Punk AF. Beck’s Blue and Sanpellegrino Aranciata Rossa are available for 99p.
Budget-friendly meal deals
Substantial food discounts are also a key part of the sale. Customers can choose an 11-inch Margherita pizza or a chicken burger with chips for £4.99 when paired with a soft drink. The price rises to £6.52 if selecting an alcoholic beverage.
A choice of six jacket potato fillings—including tuna mayo, chilli bean non-carne, cheese, and roasted vegetables—is available for the same meal deal price. For an extra 99p, an additional filling or a side salad can be added.
New gourmet jacket potato options
This year, Wetherspoon has introduced three new gourmet jacket potatoes, priced at £6.49 with a soft drink or £8.02 with an alcoholic drink. The options are:
- The Loaded Spud: Topped with cheese, maple-cured bacon, garlic butter, and sour cream.
- The Mexican Spud (vegetarian): Featuring chilli bean non-carne, cheese, guacamole, crushed tortilla chips, sliced chillies, and coriander.
- The Smoky Potato: Loaded with pulled BBQ beef brisket, cheese, smoky chipotle mayo, and sliced chillies.
"The perfect time for a pub sale"
Wetherspoon founder and chairman, Tim Martin, commented on the launch. "Department stores and shops hold their sales in January, so it is the perfect time to have a sale in the pub too," he said.
"The range of drinks and food on sale in the pub is aimed at suiting a wide variety of tastes. We have included a large selection of low and non-alcoholic drinks. I believe that the January Sale will prove popular with our customers. As always, staff at the pub will serve customers responsibly."
The sale commenced on January 2 in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, and starts a day later on January 3 in Scotland due to the bank holiday. It is important to note that while the offer is active in 600 pubs, prices may vary at Wetherspoon's other 200 venues. The chain encourages customers to enjoy alcohol responsibly during the promotional period.
