Benidorm's Peacock Island: The Truth About Visiting

The Truth About Benidorm's 'Peacock Island' and Whether It's Worth a Visit

If you have ever visited the beaches of Benidorm, you have likely noticed a small, uninhabited island sitting just off the coast in the Mediterranean Sea. Known officially as Benidorm Island, it is still commonly referred to by its original name, Peacock Island. Recently, Benidorm's British stag and hen do planner, Frank the Stag Man, teamed up with his partner, Jade, to discuss this unusual location and reveal whether it is actually worth visiting.

Frank and Jade's Candid Take on Peacock Island

In a TikTok video, Frank and Jade, who provide bespoke hen and stag do packages in the Spanish resort, shared their unfiltered thoughts on Peacock Island. Jade humorously nicknamed it "Bird Poop Island" because, contrary to its name, there are no peacocks on it. Instead, she noted that the island is covered in bird droppings, which might deter some visitors.

Jade also warned that the island is deceptively far from the shore. Situated around 3km off the Costa Blanca coast, it looks about 50 meters away, leading some to attempt swimming to it. However, she cautioned that many have tried and ended up needing rescue by lifeboats, highlighting the potential dangers.

What to Expect on a Visit to Peacock Island

When Frank asked about other interesting facts, Jade explained that a tourist boat with a "submarine bottom" carries visitors to the island for half-day excursions. This glass-bottom boat allows tourists to see various fish and marine life during the trip. Once on the island, there is a cafe, though Jade joked that it probably overcharges for coffee given its remote location.

Despite the drawbacks, Jade pointed out one saving grace: dolphins can occasionally be seen swimming around the island, adding a touch of natural beauty to the experience. Past visitors have praised the island, with one noting they enjoyed the boat ride, seeing loads of different fish, chilling with cold beers, and taking in great views, though they warned that seagulls can be aggressive if you try to walk around.

Benidorm's Official Perspective on the Island

Benidorm's tourism website describes the island as a true icon of the city, with its silhouette appearing in numerous logos and emblems. It is hailed as a haven for divers and fishermen, featuring an underwater observatory teeming with marine flora and fauna that attracts hundreds of visitors each year. The website emphasizes its unique charm, blending myths, legends, history, and present-day appeal to captivate both locals and tourists.

Frank and Jade's Showcase of Benidorm's New Mini-Strip

In addition to discussing Peacock Island, Frank and Jade also highlighted Benidorm's new "mini-strip," a walkway running from Frank's Stagman Steak House down to Tiki Beach. This strip includes famous spots like Miller's Sports Bar, a tattoo parlour, and the Stagman Sports Bar and Grill. Jade declared it offers an entire day and night of partying, with pool tables, sports, food, snacks, tattoos, beer, cocktails, and drinks all available in one area.

Frank confirmed this, stating that everything you need for entertainment is conveniently located along this strip, making it a hub for visitors looking to enjoy Benidorm's vibrant nightlife and daytime activities.
