Waitrose has become the latest supermarket to increase the price of its meal deal, now costing £5.50. The popular three-item lunch combo, which includes a main, a drink, and a snack, has risen by 50p, marking a 10% increase.
Waitrose Meal Deal Price Hike
The upmarket supermarket launched its meal deal in 2023 at £5.00, and this is the first time the price has increased. Shoppers can still choose from a range of items including sandwiches, wraps, salads, sushi, drinks, and snacks like crisps, fruit, or chocolate.
A Waitrose spokesperson defended the increase, stating: "Our meal deal remains exceptional value for money – offering a wide variety of lunch options prepared with the quality ingredients you’d expect from Waitrose and following the industry-leading welfare standards we insist on."
Other Supermarket Meal Deal Prices
Waitrose is not alone in raising prices. Tesco increased its meal deal to £3.85 with a Clubcard and £4.25 without last August, while its Premium deal rose to £6 (£5.50 with Clubcard). Sainsbury's also raised its deal to £3.95 last summer.
Cheapest Meal Deals
For budget-conscious shoppers, Asda offers the cheapest meal deal at £3.74, with no loyalty card required. Co-op charges £3.75 for members or £4.10 without, and Morrisons offers £3.75 for loyalty members or £4.00 for non-members. Tesco's Clubcard deal is £3.85, followed by Sainsbury's at £3.95.
Meal deals remain a popular lunchtime choice across the UK, but rising prices are affecting even the most budget-friendly options.
