Supermarket giant Tesco has launched a major price cut on a household gadget that can drastically reduce the cost of drying laundry during the winter months.
Winter Drying Dilemma Solved
With cold, damp weather making outdoor drying impractical and the cost of living crisis continuing, many UK households are searching for affordable ways to dry clothes. Traditional tumble dryers are notoriously expensive to run, with some cycles costing up to £1.76 each. According to the Energy Trust, appliances like tumble dryers, washing machines, and dishwashers account for a significant 14% of a home's total energy use.
This has led to a surge in popularity for dehumidifiers, which work by extracting moisture from the air around damp washing. They offer a gentler alternative to the harsh, warm air of a dryer, which can damage fabrics over time.
Tesco's Energy-Saving Offer
Tesco has now slashed the price of its Pro Breeze 6L Low Energy Compact Dehumidifier from £109.99 to £69.99. This special offer price is valid until January 19, giving shoppers a limited window to secure the deal.
The retailer promotes the device as having an efficient "power-to-size ratio," making it effective at combating mould, condensation, musty odours, and stuffy air. Crucially for laundry, it features a continuous drying mode designed specifically for wet clothing. Tesco claims the unit runs "quiet as a whisper" and, most importantly, can cost as little as 3p to operate per cycle—a fraction of the cost of using a standard tumble dryer.
Alternative Drying Options on the Market
For those needing a larger capacity, Tesco is also selling the Pro Breeze 12L Low Energy Dehumidifier with Built-in Humidistat for £139.99.
Other retailers have similar products on sale. Meaco is offering its MeacoDry Arete One 6L Compact Dehumidifier and Air Purifier for £129.99, which is advertised as being able to dry a load of washing in roughly six hours. Meanwhile, Screwfix has the Blyss 12 Litre/Day Dehumidifier priced at £95, described as ideal for controlling damp and excess moisture in the home.
This wave of deals highlights a growing consumer trend towards energy-efficient appliances that help manage household bills, particularly during the expensive winter season.
