Supermarket own-brand Coco Pops are just as good as Kellogg's and up to £1.65 cheaper, according to a recent taste test. The childhood classic cereal was put to the test to see if supermarket-branded versions can beat a bowl of the original.
The Taste Test
Emily Malia tested cereals from Asda, Lidl, Tesco, and M&S against Kellogg's Coco Pops, which cost £2.85 for a 420g box. Each cereal was served with milk, and the texture and flavor were compared.
Asda Choco Snaps - £1.20
Thinner and darker, these lost their chocolate flavor quickly and became soggy. Score: 3/5.
M&S Choco Pops - £1.20
Super crunchy and chocolaty with a dark chocolate edge, turning the milk brown. Highly recommended. Score: 5/5.
Lidl Cocoa Snaps - £1.15
Smaller, less crispy, and sweeter, with a sickly taste. Score: 3/5.
Tesco Choco Snaps - £1.25
Sweet and chocolaty, a close match to Kellogg's, despite recipe changes. Score: 4/5.
Kellogg's Coco Pops - £2.85
The original remains tasty but is hard to justify the cost when alternatives like M&S and Tesco are nearly as good. Score: 5/5.
Overall, M&S and Tesco offer excellent value, with minimal difference in taste and texture.
