New plans have been revealed for a Liverpool city centre juice bar that mysteriously closed. Pomegranate opened on Old Hall Street in the city centre in April 2024, offering brunch, juices, and smoothies with unique extras like bee pollen, açaí, and ashwagandha drops. The founder, Joanna Jones, also owned the award-winning Blackberry Grove in New Brighton. However, Jones stepped away from the business last year, and Billy Woof is now the sole active director.
Closure and New Application
The business has been shut for some time, with little known about the reason for its closure. Now, a notice in the window indicates a potential new occupant. Wrexham-based Mersey Ventures Ltd has applied to take over the space as an Italian-American deli. The application seeks a premises licence to sell alcohol from 10am to 10pm daily.
Details of the Proposal
Under Jones' management, Pomegranate offered specialist coffee from Monkeyboard. Her previous ventures include Liverpool's Tabac cafe, Heswall's Vegan Tapas, and The Mouse at Brimstage. Mersey Ventures is seeking permission to open from 10am to 10pm and play recorded music during those hours. According to an online listing, the new venue would be called Lorenzo's New York-Italian Deli.
All representations must be received by the licensing authority within the statutory 28-day period, with a deadline of July 9. A date for the licensing application to be considered by Liverpool Council has yet to be confirmed. It is an offence to knowingly or recklessly make a false statement in connection with an application, punishable with a maximum fine of £5,000 on summary conviction.
