McDonald's Monopoly Returns Amid Price Hikes
McDonald's Monopoly Returns Amid Price Hikes

McDonald's has confirmed the return of its popular Monopoly promotion this summer, but customers will also face price increases on several menu items. The game, which mimics the classic board game, allows customers to collect pieces on menu items to win prizes ranging from free food to cash and cars.

UK and Ireland CEO Alistair Macrow announced the game's return in an email to customers, teasing a larger prize pool and increased chances of winning. Exact dates and prize details have yet to be revealed. Last year's promotion included VIP cards offering a free medium meal weekly for a year.

However, McDonald's is also raising prices by 10p to 20p on many items, citing rising inflation. The cheeseburger, for example, will increase from 99p to £1.19, its first price rise in 14 years. Most increases take effect this summer, though prices may vary by location except on the Saver menu.

Macrow acknowledged the challenging economic times, noting that customers are seeing everyday costs rise. The Monopoly game returns after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, with last year's edition marking its comeback.
