Supermarket Coco Pops Taste Test: £1.20 Own-Brand Matches Kellogg's
Supermarket Coco Pops Taste Test: £1.20 Own-Brand Matches Kellogg's

Kellogg's Coco Pops have long been a beloved breakfast cereal for many Brits, evoking childhood memories and serving as a guilty pleasure for adults. But with the original priced at £2.85 for a 420g box, shoppers are increasingly turning to supermarket-branded alternatives. The question remains: do these cheaper options deliver the same chocolatey crunch?

We put four supermarket versions to the test: Asda, Lidl, Tesco, and M&S. Each was prepared with a standard portion of milk, half-filling the bowl, to ensure a fair comparison.

Asda Choco Snaps - £1.20

Asda's Choco Snaps are thinner and darker in colour, but the chocolate flavour quickly fades once milk is added. The cereal loses its crispness faster than others, becoming bland in a larger bowl. Rating: 3/5

M&S Choco Pops - £1.20

M&S offers a 'toasted puffed rice cereal' high in vitamins and iron. It is super crunchy and chocolaty, with a dark chocolate edge that turns the milk brown. The taste closely mirrors Kellogg's. Rating: 5/5

Lidl Cocoa Snaps - £1.15

Lidl's version is smaller and less dark, with a sweeter, less rich chocolate taste. It goes soggy quickly and feels sickly. Rating: 3/5

Tesco Choco Snaps - £1.25

Tesco's cereal remains sweet and chocolaty despite recipe changes that reduced sugar. It is a close match to Kellogg's and a great value swap. Rating: 4/5

Kellogg's Coco Pops - £2.85

The original is hard to beat, but M&S comes close. Kellogg's offers fibre and iron, but at a steep price. For most, M&S or Tesco provide a noticeable saving without a major taste difference. Rating: 5/5

Ultimately, even Kellogg's goes soggy in milk over time. The M&S alternative is just as good for a fraction of the cost.
