This weekend stretches longer than usual for many Britons thanks to the late May bank holiday falling on Monday. While some will opt to unwind and recharge, others will seize the day off work to tackle chores including replenishing their fridges and cupboards.
Anyone intending to use the additional day off to visit the supermarkets should note alterations to trading hours, as numerous stores will be shutting earlier and opening later than normal on the bank holiday, reports the Liverpool Echo. Below are the trading times on Monday, May 25 for Aldi, Lidl, Asda, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Tesco and M&S.
Britain's largest discounter, Aldi, will trade from 8am to 8pm on Monday. Branches outside the M25 and in Wales will trade between 8am and 10pm. London and Scottish branches will operate as normal. Lidl stores will trade from 8am to 8pm, with convenience outlets open from 7am to 11pm. Asda branches will trade between 8am and 8pm, while Asda Express sites remain open round the clock or until their standard late-night closure.
Morrisons large supermarkets across England and Wales will operate from 7am to 8pm, though some may shut earlier depending on location. Smaller Morrisons Daily shops will maintain regular hours. Sainsbury's bank holiday hours vary by branch; most large stores and large Express branches in England and Wales will trade from 8am to 6pm, while Scottish Express outlets open 7am to 10pm. Tesco confirmed that standard Express stores will see no alteration to their opening times. Marks and Spencer food halls will open at 8.30am and close at 6pm.
Customers are urged to verify details online before heading out, as times may differ by location.
