Man Utd 'ban' Marcus Rashford from joining two teams in £40m transfer
Man Utd blocks Rashford from joining two rivals for £40m

Manchester United have reportedly banned Marcus Rashford from joining two of their biggest rivals for a reduced transfer fee this summer. The England international forward's future remains uncertain after Barcelona opted not to trigger his £26 million buy option following a successful loan spell.

Rashford's Loan Spell and Return

Rashford spent the previous season on loan at Barcelona, having earlier enjoyed a six-month stint at Aston Villa. He originally left Manchester United after being sidelined by manager Ruben Amorim. It seemed likely that the 28-year-old would leave permanently this summer, but Barcelona's decision has left his future up in the air once more.

Release Clause and Restrictions

Despite the uncertainty, Rashford still has a release clause in his contract, now set at £40 million. However, according to The Athletic, United have banned him from joining Manchester City and Liverpool for that price. This move is designed to prevent their closest rivals from securing a bargain for a player who was valued at over double that fee just a couple of years ago.

Potential Return to United

There remains a possibility that Rashford could stay at Manchester United for the 2026/27 campaign. As things stand, he is expected to return to United after the World Cup and train with Michael Carrick's side during pre-season. Rashford is said to prefer a move abroad, but if that does not materialize, he would rather stay with United than join another English club.

Rashford's Barcelona Success

Rashford enjoyed a productive loan spell at Barcelona, contributing 15 goals in 32 league appearances as the Catalan side won the La Liga title. Speaking to ESPN, he expressed his happiness: “This is the perfect way I want it to end. I’m very happy, I just want to enjoy today. I live in the moment. At the end of the season we will see. I came here to win and we do this so I’m very happy. It’s an incredible feeling. Over the season we deserved it, we were the best team. We had some bad moments but we always come back and fight to improve.”

Focus on World Cup

For now, Rashford's attention is on England's World Cup campaign, which begins against Croatia on Wednesday night. The Three Lions will then face Ghana and Panama, with the knockout stages starting from the round of 32.
