Switching to Liquid Detergent: Cheaper, Softer Clothes, Better Smell
Liquid Detergent Swap: Cheaper, Softer Clothes, Better Smell

Nicola Roy, a writer for the Spare Time section, recently made a simple change to her laundry routine that has yielded significant benefits. Switching from laundry pods to liquid detergent has resulted in softer clothes, lower costs, and a reduced environmental footprint.

The Problem with Laundry Pods

For years, Roy used laundry pods, often choosing whichever brand was on offer. While some left clothes smelling fresh, she frequently encountered the issue of pod explosions, which left stubborn, gloopy residue marks on her laundry, particularly on white washes. Additionally, budget pods often failed to leave clothes feeling soft.

The Switch to Liquid Detergent

Roy decided to try liquid detergent, purchasing a bottle of Almat detergent from Aldi in the Tropical Lily scent for £1.79. This bottle provides 28 washes, making it significantly cheaper than pods. She has also eliminated fabric softener, noting that it can build up on clothes and towels over time, actually making them stiffer.

Results and Benefits

Since making the switch, Roy reports that her clothes have never felt softer, despite air-drying them. The sticky residue stains are gone, and she enjoys a fresher, longer-lasting fragrance on her clothes. Liquid detergent also uses less plastic packaging, making it a more environmentally conscious choice. The only minor inconvenience is that pouring the detergent can get a little messy.

Roy concludes that while pods offer convenience, the switch to liquid detergent is well worth the extra effort for the improved results and cost savings.
