Get ready, Brighton! The wait is nearly over as Swedish furniture giant IKEA has finally announced the official opening date for its highly anticipated new city centre store.
The new smaller-format outlet, located at the former Topshop unit in Western Road, will throw open its doors to the public on Thursday, 14th November. This marks a significant moment for the city's retail landscape, bringing a slice of Scandinavian design to the heart of the South Coast.
A New Kind of IKEA Experience
This isn't your typical out-of-town mega store. The Brighton location is part of IKEA's new strategy to move into city centres, making its products more accessible to those without cars. The store will span three floors and approximately 5,900 square metres, offering a curated range of the retailer's most popular home furnishings and accessories.
Shoppers can expect a unique "market hall" experience on the ground floor, featuring a wide array of home accessories, textiles, and kitchenware. The first floor will be dedicated to inspiring room sets and smaller furniture items, showcasing clever solutions for urban living.
Swedish Meatballs Are Coming to Town
No IKEA visit is complete without a taste of Sweden. The new store will feature a café serving up classic IKEA family favourites, including their famous meatballs, plant-based hot dogs, and a selection of cakes and pastries. A key focus will be on their sustainable and healthier food options, aligning with Brighton's eco-conscious ethos.
Creating Jobs and Boosting the Local Economy
The opening is a boon for the local job market, with the store set to create around 50 new jobs for the community. From sales colleagues to customer service and food operators, the recruitment drive is already underway.
Jakob Bertilsson, IKEA UK & Ireland City Centre Manager, expressed his excitement: "We are incredibly excited to be opening our new city centre store in Brighton this November... We can’t wait to welcome the local community into the store for the first time and become a part of the city’s vibrant retail scene."
This new opening signals IKEA's strong continued investment in the UK market, following the success of its other city centre locations in London. Brightonians now have a brand new destination for home inspiration right on their doorstep.
