High street electrical giant Currys is launching a practical solution to a common Christmas Day crisis: the return of its hugely popular battery-filled Advent calendar.
The Logik AAdvent Calendar, which sold out in a single day last year, is back for 2025 with a new festive design. Priced at just £5, the calendar is designed to prevent the familiar scene of children's disappointment when new toys can't be played with because of missing power cells.
The Power Behind the Doors
Behind each of the 24 festive doors, parents will find a crucial power source: twelve AA batteries and twelve AAA batteries. Currys emphasises that this is a significant saving, as buying the batteries separately would cost £7.98.
A spokesperson for the retailer revealed a startling statistic: Three in five families have faced tears and tantrums after forgetting to buy batteries for Christmas morning. The average parent spends 13 minutes frantically searching the house before giving up.
A Mission for a Stress-Free Christmas
Currys is on a declared mission to ensure Christmas morning is stress-free and fully charged. The company's own data shows that battery sales more than double over the festive period, making this calendar a practical must-have.
Michelle Gorringe-Smith, Currys Category Director, commented: "We were blown away by the response to last year’s AAdvent calendar – it sold out in hours. It turns out, practical gifts really can be the ultimate Christmas luxury, which is why we’re thrilled to bring it back."
The retailer also issues an important safety reminder: the calendar should be kept safely away from children and pets. The product description online cheerfully admits it isn't full of tasty treats but is packed full of power, helping families avoid raiding drawers for batteries on the big day.
Why Toys Don't Include Batteries
This initiative highlights a key frustration for parents. Toys often do not include batteries due to several factors:
- Cost and Weight: Including batteries makes toys more expensive and heavier.
- Limited Shelf Life: Batteries can wear out or leak, potentially damaging a toy if it's stored for a long time.
- Safety: Not including batteries helps prevent risks like a child swallowing them or being harmed by a leak.
The limited edition AAdvent Calendar is available to buy now for £5 while stocks last, with Currys warning that it won't be around for long.
