Priscilla Presley has voiced her strong disapproval of her daughter Lisa Marie Presley's marriage to Michael Jackson, describing the pop star as 'manipulative' in her forthcoming memoir. The 80-year-old writes that she was 'appalled' by the union, believing Jackson was not marrying Lisa Marie for love but rather to align himself with the Presley dynasty.
In 'Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis', Priscilla claims Jackson, who died in 2009, sought the marriage to improve his public image amid allegations of child abuse, which he denied. She recalls asking Lisa Marie whether the couple had a physical relationship, and her daughter answered in the affirmative.
Lisa Marie, who died in 2023 aged 54, was married four times, including to Jackson from 1994 to 1996. Her own posthumous memoir, 'From Here to the Great Unknown', reportedly addressed Jackson's behaviour and the allegations against him, describing him as 'controlling and calculating'.
Priscilla also reflects on how Elvis Presley, who died in 1977, would have viewed the marriage. After Lisa Marie filed for divorce, Priscilla writes that she could 'practically hear Elvis sigh with relief'. The memoir is published tomorrow.
