Asda is offering motorists a welcome boost ahead of the festive season with a new fuel discount. The supermarket giant has announced a 3p per litre saving on fuel for customers who spend £15 or more in its Express stores.
How to Claim the Festive Fuel Saving
To take advantage of the offer, shoppers must first spend a minimum of £15 inside an Asda Express store. The discount is then applied when they pay for both their groceries and fuel at the checkout. This promotion is designed to provide relief for the millions of families hitting the roads to visit loved ones over the Christmas period.
The deal is available right up until December 31, 2025, giving customers ample time to benefit. It can be redeemed at almost 500 Asda Express locations across the United Kingdom.
Expanding Convenience and Value
Joseph Sutton, Vice President of Asda Express, foodservice and fuel, emphasised the company's focus on customer value. "We know every penny matters for our customers," he stated. "This offer gives people a little extra help - letting them save on fuel while offering unbeatable value as they stock up on everyday essentials or festive treats."
This initiative coincides with a significant expansion of Asda's convenience footprint. The retailer plans to launch up to 20 new Express stores before the year ends. This follows the successful acquisition of 469 convenience store and fuel sites from the Co-op and EG Group, accelerating a strategy that began with the first Asda Express opening in 2022.
David Lepley, Chief Supply Chain Officer, commented on the rapid growth: "We’re thrilled to kick off the next phase of our Express rollout... In just three years, we’ve grown from zero convenience stores to establishing a major presence in the channel, with almost 500 stores by the end of the year."
Context and Recent Challenges
The fuel discount promotion and store expansion come as Asda navigates other operational challenges. The supermarket recently revealed that a £1 billion IT upgrade had set the business back by an estimated six months.
The complex transition involved separating over 2,500 legacy IT systems following Asda's sale by Walmart to the Issa brothers and TDR Capital in 2021. While the migration was completed in the third quarter of this year, it temporarily disrupted stock flow between depots and stores, leading to inconsistent product availability, particularly for online orders.
Despite these hurdles, Asda's latest fuel offer demonstrates a clear push to attract customers during the crucial Christmas trading period and solidify its position in the competitive convenience market.
