Aldi has announced a major rollout of InPost parcel lockers at more than 500 of its UK stores, with plans to expand to at least 600 by the end of the year. The lockers allow customers to collect and return online orders from retailers such as Vinted, offering a secure and convenient alternative to home delivery.
The German discount retailer initially trialled the lockers at 22 stores in December 2023. Following the success of the trial, the lockers are now available at 536 stores across England, Scotland and Wales. The partnership with InPost aims to provide a seamless shopping experience, enabling customers to handle parcels while doing their weekly shop.
Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: 'Convenience and efficiency is important to our shoppers, which is why we're continuing to roll out InPost lockers to as many of our stores as possible. It has always been our aim to save our customers time as well as money.' Neil Kuschel, CEO at InPost UK, added: 'Our growing partnership with Aldi reflects a shared commitment to offer the finest daily shopping experience for customers throughout the UK.'
The move follows Aldi's decision to scrap its click and collect service from nearly 200 stores last year. That £4.99 service, introduced during the pandemic, allowed customers to order online and collect groceries without leaving their car. The new lockers are seen as a more sustainable and cost-effective alternative, with over 11,000 InPost drop-off points already available nationwide.
Aldi customers can check online whether their local store has the lockers before visiting. The lockers are designed to reduce reliance on store opening hours and queuing, providing greater flexibility for parcel collection and returns.
