Jadon Sancho is prioritising a stay in the Premier League despite reports that Turkish club Besiktas are preparing an offer for the winger. The 26-year-old became a free agent at the end of June, concluding a five-year spell at Manchester United that included a loan at Aston Villa last season.
Sancho's Manchester United Exit
United confirmed Sancho's departure with just 44 words, marking the end of what is widely considered one of the club's worst-ever signings. The Red Devils paid £73 million to bring him from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, but he managed only 12 goals in 83 appearances. His £250,000-a-week wages meant United effectively paid £6 million per goal, highlighting the financial burden of the deal.
Sancho, who missed out on Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad, is now taking time off before deciding his next move. While interest is expected from several clubs, few will be able to match his previous salary demands.
Besiktas Interest and Premier League Priority
Turkish outlet Fanatik claims Besiktas are among the sides preparing an offer in the coming days. Sancho was reportedly on the Black Eagles' shortlist during the season, but the winger is prioritising a move to another Premier League club.
Former Newcastle manager Alan Pardew commented on Sancho's situation, saying: "He hasn't really done enough to warrant a massive, massive contract like he was on at Man United, but he'll get a good move." Pardew added that clubs face tough decisions on renegotiating contracts and balancing financial interests with squad needs.
Underwhelming Aston Villa Loan
During his loan at Aston Villa, Sancho made 39 appearances but started only nine games, scoring once and providing three assists. His underwhelming spell at Villa Park led Unai Emery's side to decide against pursuing a permanent deal.
As a free agent, Sancho can negotiate with clubs directly, but his high wage demands and recent form may limit his options. A return to the Premier League remains his priority, but it remains to be seen which club will take a chance on the former Dortmund star.
