Moyes: Everton Must Learn from Bournemouth and Brentford

David Moyes has stated that Everton must take inspiration from Bournemouth and Brentford as they seek to improve their Premier League standing. The Everton manager, speaking as a World Cup pundit on talkSPORT, highlighted how these two clubs have succeeded despite limited history in the top flight.

Learning from Success Stories

Bournemouth and Brentford have spent just nine and ten years respectively in the Premier League, yet finished sixth and ninth last season. Bournemouth even qualified for the Europa League for the first time. Moyes noted that Everton, despite their illustrious history with nine league titles and five FA Cups, have not won a trophy in 32 years.

“We see how well Bournemouth and Brentford are doing, so there’s no reason why we shouldn’t have those ambitions,” Moyes said. “We are trying to be back up at the top end of the teams that we can.”

Last Season's Struggles

Everton were just three points off Champions League places after a 3-0 win over Chelsea in March but lost form, failing to win any of their last seven matches. They finished 13th, only one point better than the previous year. Moyes admitted, “For long periods we were there, we just didn’t quite have enough in the last four or five weeks.”

With the 2026/27 Premier League fixtures released, Everton start at home against Crystal Palace. Moyes aims to build on last season’s improvement but acknowledges the challenge: “I don’t know if a club like Everton can make huge strides now, but we can try to match those clubs.”
