A routine Saturday morning shopping trip turned into a terrifying ordeal for a Texas woman when an unidentified man launched into an expletive-filled rage and allegedly attempted to assault her at a Houston Kroger supermarket.
Peaceful Shopping Trip Turns Violent
Shonna Hackney, a 41-year-old life coach and minister, was simply stocking up on essentials when the confrontation erupted at the self-checkout area. The Texas native had begun scanning her items after the male customer had already completed his transaction and was gathering his purchases at the end of the register.
"The long belt was clear at the time," Hackney told the Daily Mail, explaining how she proceeded to send her merchandise down the conveyor. Without warning, the man - dressed in a white Nike t-shirt, Houston Astros baseball hat and glasses - began screaming at her, demanding: "You can't wait till I'm done?"
Escalating Confrontation and Security Intervention
The situation rapidly deteriorated as the irate customer started throwing Hackney's items back at her. When she asked him to stop, the confrontation turned physical. "He tried to touch me three times," Hackney recalled, prompting immediate action from store security.
As a security guard stepped between them, he told the man he shouldn't put his hands on a woman, to which the customer defiantly replied: "I didn't threaten to hit her!" The guard countered that the man had invaded Hackney's personal space, triggering another outburst where the customer screamed "F*** you!" directly at Hackney while putting his face in her camera.
Dramatic Exit and Aftermath
Before being escorted from the premises, the man returned to the conveyor belt, grabbing and throwing more of Hackney's items while shouting "F*** you b****!" and raising his middle finger in the air. The security guard followed the disruptive customer out of the store as Hackney called out "God bless you sir. God bless you."
Reflecting on the incident, Hackney expressed pride in her self-control during the confrontation. "I didn't touch him. The old me would have but I have self-control," she told the Daily Mail. The life coach has taken an important lesson from the experience: "Every action don't need a reaction."
Despite the terrifying nature of the encounter, Hackney maintains compassion for her aggressor, stating: "I pray for him and hope he finds peace." Both the Kroger corporate office and Houston Police Department have been contacted for comment regarding the disturbing incident.
