A couple from New Jersey is redefining what it means to be lucky, having scooped a massive $3 million lottery jackpot less than half a year after winning a separate $1 million prize.
A Staggering Double Jackpot
The pair, who enjoy a friendly competition with scratch-off tickets, purchased the winning Jackpot Millions game from an Exxon station in Fischer Bay. The husband revealed he knew he had won big before he had even finished scratching the ticket. He immediately handed it to his wife for confirmation.
"I looked at it, held it to my chest and screamed," the wife told the New Jersey Lottery. This monumental $3 million win comes just months after their first life-changing prize of $1 million from the Ultimate Spectacular game earlier in 2025.
Beating Astronomical Odds
Officials from the New Jersey Lottery have confirmed the mind-boggling statistics behind this double victory. The chance of a single person hitting two million-dollar lottery wins in under a year is a staggering 1 in 2 trillion.
To put this into perspective, lottery officials stated that you would be 1.2 million times more likely to be hit by a meteorite than to achieve what this fortunate couple has. James Carey, the New Jersey Lottery Executive Director, attributed the wins to "pure, blind luck."
Family-Focused Future
The couple, who have two very young children—a 5-month-old and an 11-month-old—and another on the way, said their scratch-off tradition began as a way to have fun at home. "With our kids, we can't really get out of the house," the husband explained. "So at the beginning of the month, we get some tickets. When the kids go to bed, we scratch a few off."
They turned it into a light-hearted contest to see who could win the most, often finding they would at least break even. Now, with a combined $4 million in winnings, their focus is firmly on the future. They plan to use the money to provide a secure and comfortable life for their growing family in the years to come.
