The cleaner explained the science behind the hack using an old, smelly machine as an example. She stated: "You have a tube that goes through your drawer and down into your drum and it only ever gets cold water. So see if you go in with boiling water, it cleans it and gets rid of that smell."
By pouring the boiling water directly into the detergent drawer, you can deep clean the internal tube that connects to the drum. This tube, which typically only carries cold water, can harbour mould and bacteria causing the unpleasant smell. Repeating the process a couple of times is recommended for a thorough clean.
