Ex-GMP staff member charged with fraud

A former member of Greater Manchester Police staff has been charged with fraud, the police watchdog has announced.

Court appearance

Andrew King, 47, is scheduled to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, June 10. The charges follow an investigation directed by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) Anti-Corruption Unit.

Details of the charge

The IOPC stated that Mr King has been charged with fraud by abuse of position, contrary to sections 1 and 4 of the Fraud Act 2006. The investigation was carried out by GMP's Counter Corruption Unit.

Mr King served as a digital and innovation project manager at the force. The charge relates to an allegation that he failed to disclose an introducer agreement with a private company while employed between December 2022 and September 2023.

The matter was referred to the IOPC in October 2023, and after the investigation concluded in April 2024, a referral was made to the Crown Prosecution Service to consider criminal charges.
