Major UK wholesaler Costco has issued an urgent product recall for two of its popular pre-packaged food items over fears they may contain pieces of plastic.
Details of the Recall
The retailer, in conjunction with its food supplier Venture Foods, has announced the immediate recall of its Caesar Salad and Chicken Sandwich with Caesar Salad. The action was prompted by the discovery of a potential ‘plastic foreign material’ within the salad dressing component of these products.
The affected items can be identified by their specific codes and sell-by dates. The Chicken Sandwich with Caesar Salad carries the Item Number 11444, while the standalone Caesar Salad is marked with Item Number 19927. Products with Sell By Dates falling between 17th October 2025 and 9th November 2025 are included in this safety notice.
What Customers Should Do
Costco is strongly advising all customers who have purchased these items not to consume them. Instead, shoppers should return the products to their local Costco warehouse to receive a full refund. The company has also encouraged anyone with concerns to contact its customer service team for further assistance.
A Pattern of Recent Recalls
This is not the first significant recall issued by Costco this year. Earlier this month, the company recalled over 940,000 bottles of its Kirkland brand Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene. This recall was initiated due to a risk of the glass bottles shattering, which could cause serious lacerations.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission reported that at least 10 customers had experienced bottles breaking, with one person sustaining a laceration. The Prosecco, with Universal Product Code 196633883742 and Costco item number 1879870, had actually been subject to a similar recall in September.
Also in September, Costco recalled its Kirkland brand Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke (Item Number 17193, Sell-by date 22nd September) over potential Listeria contamination from green onions. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notes that Listeria infections can be particularly dangerous for vulnerable groups, causing severe illness and, in pregnant women, even miscarriage.
These consecutive recalls highlight the ongoing challenges in global supply chains and the critical importance of rigorous food and product safety checks for major retailers.
