A new wave of intense heat is set to sweep across the UK, with temperatures potentially reaching 33C in some areas. Forecasters predict that 29 counties will experience temperatures exceeding 30C within the next two weeks. After a period of record-breaking spring heat in May followed by cooler conditions and heavy rain, a fresh bout of hot weather is on the horizon.
Hottest Regions
NetWeather maps for Thursday, June 25, show scorching red conditions across much of England. At 6pm, Gloucester is expected to be the hottest spot, with temperatures surging to 33C. Bristol, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Surrey, and both West and East Sussex will be just a degree cooler at 32C.
Hampshire, Dorset, Kent, Nottinghamshire, and the West Midlands will see highs of 31C. Cardiff, Leicestershire, and South Yorkshire will hit 30C. The heat will also extend across much of East Anglia, where highs of 28C are forecast.
Regional Variations
Devon and Cornwall will just miss out on the 30C heat, with 28C forecast, while West Wales will reach 29C. Mid Wales will be a degree cooler. Northern England will see temperatures between 25C and 27C, but could also experience heavy rainfall, with up to 2mm expected.
In Northern Ireland, Londonderry will see the warmest weather with highs of 27C. Scotland is expected to miss out on the intense heat altogether, with central areas and the Highlands forecast to experience wet conditions. Southern parts of Scotland will see the warmest weather at around 22C, while Aberdeenshire will see highs of just 17C.
