Exact Date UK 38C Heatwave Ends as Rain Sweeps Britain

The United Kingdom is enduring a severe heatwave with temperatures expected to reach as high as 39°C on Monday and Tuesday. The Met Office has issued amber heat alerts for southern and central England, in effect until Thursday, warning of widespread impacts on people and infrastructure.

Health Warnings and Safety Advice

Experts advise Brits to drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun, and avoid exercise between 11am and 3pm when the sun is strongest. Curtains should be closed in sun-facing rooms, and those venturing outside should take water, stay in the shade, and wear sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat. The Met Office warns that more people will visit coastal areas, lakes, and rivers, increasing the risk of water safety incidents.

Vulnerable individuals are likely to experience adverse health effects, while the wider population may suffer sunburn, heat exhaustion (dehydration, nausea, fatigue), and other heat-related illnesses. Delays to road, rail, and air travel are possible, with welfare issues for those experiencing prolonged delays. Working practices and daily routines may need to change, and heat-sensitive systems or equipment could fail, leading to power cuts and loss of services to homes and businesses.

When Will the Heatwave End?

For those not fond of the heat, relief is forecast from Saturday, June 27, when temperatures will drop and rain is expected. The mercury will dip further by Monday, June 29, with highs of only 20°C at 6am, according to WXCharts. Rain is predicted for Sunday, June 28, with temperatures reaching around 25°C.

Friday and Saturday will be cooler than earlier in the week, but still in the high 20s. The Met Office's forecast for June 26 to July 5 states: "Fairly changeable conditions at first with periods of rain and showers, especially in the west, and there could be some thundery outbreaks at times. There will likely be some drier and brighter spells though."

Outlook for July

Into July, changeable conditions are likely to continue as Atlantic lows move in from the west, with transient periods of high pressure. This will bring spells of rain and cloud interspersed with more settled periods. Temperatures remain widely above average, and the far southeast may retain some hot temperatures initially, but overall it will be cooler than the preceding days.
