Thousands are expected to flock to British beaches this bank holiday weekend as the UK prepares to bask in glorious 23C sunshine, according to weather maps turning a vibrant orange.
Warmest Day on Saturday
The southeast of England is forecast to experience the warmest weather, with temperatures reaching 21C to 23C on Saturday. However, the southwest may see possible thunderstorms. Jim Dale, senior meteorologist at British Weather Services, urged people to "take advantage" of the dry spells, especially on Saturday, which is expected to be the warmest day of the long weekend. He noted that there would be little wind, making it perfect for heading to the beach.
Changeable Weather Ahead
While Saturday offers sunny spells and rather humid conditions, Sunday will see fewer showers and plenty of sunshine, though notably cooler. The Met Office has forecast sunny intervals over the long weekend, but weather is expected to become increasingly changeable. Bursts of showers and thunderstorms are predicted in the southwest, with some rainy intervals in the north.
Regional Variations
For Cornwall and Devon, drizzle is expected to continue into Monday, with highs in the low teens Celsius. Scotland and northern England will see temperatures around 11C, while southern areas can expect 17C to 18C. Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Tom Crabtree said: "By Friday, conditions are expected to become more unsettled, with rain and showers spreading in from the southwest, some of which could be heavy and possibly thundery. Ahead of this, it will feel warm and humid in parts of England on Friday, with temperatures potentially reaching 24C in central and southern areas."
Overall, the bank holiday weekend will bring a mix of sunshine and showers, with Saturday being the standout day for outdoor activities.
