Official Heatwave Criteria

If these forecasts materialise, parts of the UK could experience an official heatwave, defined as temperatures exceeding the local heatwave threshold for three consecutive days. The threshold varies from 25C to 28C across counties, with 28C in the south-east and 25C in other regions. The GFS model shows peaks of 28C, 30C, and 32C from June 17 to 19 in the same areas, meeting the criteria.

Met Office Long-Range Forecast

The Met Office forecast for June 18 to July 2 indicates a relatively settled start with high pressure bringing drier conditions and above-normal temperatures. However, towards the end of June, low pressure may increase, bringing heavy showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the south, which could also become hot.
