Met Office Issues Five Severe Weather Warnings as Storm Dave Approaches

The Met Office has officially named the two major areas of the United Kingdom that could be buried under up to 18 inches of snow as Storm Dave makes landfall over the Easter weekend. The national weather service has escalated its alert level by issuing a total of five separate weather warnings, covering rain, wind, and significant snowfall, which are set to impact vast regions from Saturday through Sunday.

Snow and Rain Warnings for Central and North-West Scotland

A yellow warning for both rain and snow has been activated for parts of central and north-west Scotland, effective from 3pm on Saturday, April 4, until 6am on Sunday. The Met Office specifically highlighted the Highlands and Na h-Eileanan Siar as the primary zones at risk. In its official statement, the forecaster cautioned that "a combination of heavy rain, and snow over higher ground, may lead to some disruption in association with Storm Dave."

Meteorologists explained that rain moving in from the south on Saturday afternoon is likely to transition into sleet and snow over elevated terrain as it collides with colder air masses across central and north-west Scotland. The snowfall is expected to intensify during the evening hours, with blizzard-like conditions becoming probable as wind speeds increase. Data from WXCharts, utilizing MetDesk information, indicates that some sections of the Highlands could accumulate up to 18 inches of snow.
