Valve Issues Disappointing Update on Steam Machine Stock and Prices
Valve Issues Disappointing Steam Machine Stock Update

Steam Machine stock shortages are not expected to end soon, according to Valve. The console debuted in June but only in limited quantities and via a random draw. Units will ship throughout the year, but customers who did not enter the draw in June may have to wait until 2027 to purchase one.

Memory Shortages Limit Supply

Valve engineer Pierre-Loup Griffais told Bloomberg that the company is building units as fast as possible but is constrained by memory shortages. "We're basically building everything we can," Griffais said. "We're limited by memory capacity, for sure."

Fellow engineer Yazan Aldehayyat added that memory prices are still rising. "Honestly, it's still getting worse," he said. "What people are seeing on retail shelves right now, from our observations, is lagging what we're seeing from a bulk supply by at least three to six months."

Price and Features

Valve does not expect prices to drop soon. The Steam Machine offers 4K gaming at 60 frames per second with FSR, powered by a semi-custom AMD desktop class CPU and GPU. Two versions are available: 512GB storage (£879 without controller, £938 with) and 2TB (£1,149 without controller, £1,208 with). Both support microSD expansion and come with optional Steam Controller bundles.

Valve describes the device as a hybrid between a home console and a PC, providing couch gaming convenience with PC versatility.
