The Met Office has explained when it will "be less hot" after the UK's third heatwave of 2026 so far. The country has basked in sunshine and warmth for an extended period, with many people likely wondering when the hot spell will come to an end.
Thursday and Friday Forecast
Today, Thursday, there will be some morning cloud which should clear gradually for most of the UK. Otherwise it will be dry "with long sunny spells", though with a "low chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm in the far southwest". Friday is also set to be dry with sunny spells.
Weekend Outlook
Looking further ahead, conditions are set to stay "dry and settled through the weekend" with more sunshine from Saturday through to Monday. There will likely be some cloud that could "perhaps bring the odd shower" - "very warm initially, with temperatures then returning closer to average".
Long-Range Forecast: July 20-29
In its long-range UK forecast, the Met Office predicts "it will be less hot compared to many recent days" during the period between Monday, July 20, and Wednesday, July 29. It should remain "predominantly dry" during this timeframe, though some showers at the start of this period are likely "across the far north".
Towards the end of July there may be a "greater chance of rain, showers or thunderstorms compared to earlier in the month". Initially this will be more likely "across the north before possibly transferring south". That said, "temperatures are expected to remain above average during this period."
Outlook into August
Forecasters then predict that, between July 30 and August 13, the weather will be "somewhat more changeable". Temperatures are likely to be above average, though, with "some hot spells possible".
