Temperatures are expected to rise to the mid-20s Celsius next week ahead of the late May bank holiday weekend, according to the Met Office. The forecaster said sunshine and showers will dominate the first half of the week, before drier and brighter conditions set in by Thursday and Friday.
Craig Snell, a Met Office forecaster, noted that the start of the week will remain changeable and unsettled across parts of the UK, with temperatures slightly below average for the time of year. However, a shift is anticipated as the weekend approaches.
Monday will bring sunshine and showers, some heavy with a risk of thunder, followed by a band of rain moving across most of the UK later in the day. Tuesday is expected to be blustery with wind and rain, occasionally heavy, along with thunder.
Temperatures will begin to climb towards seasonal norms by Wednesday, with the south of England reaching around 20C. By Thursday and Friday, conditions will become increasingly drier and brighter, especially for England and Wales, with maximum temperatures of 26C possible in the southeast on Friday.
Looking ahead to the bank holiday weekend, Snell said it is too early to give precise maximums, but the general trend suggests continued warmth. “The best of the sunshine across the bank holiday weekend will probably be across England and Wales,” he added, noting that temperatures are likely to remain above normal.
