Coronation Street fans have taken to social media to express their anger at DC Kit Green following his latest comments to DS Lisa Connor-Swain, as the tension between the two detectives continues to grow.
Kit is now doing everything he can to try to get his girlfriend, Sarah Platt, in the clear after she was arrested for the murder of Theo Silverton. The builder's death took place back in April, and during Monday's (July 20) episode of Corrie, Sarah found herself being placed into cuffs before being questioned at the police station by Lisa over the abuser's death.
Sarah's arrest and Kit's cover-up attempts
As Corrie fans are aware, Theo was revealed as the murder victim months after viewers first learned that he was among five villains at risk of being killed off during an episode in February, which featured flashforward scenes showing Lisa's daughter, Betsy Swain, being interviewed by the police about finding a dead body. Theo's death came after he tried to torment Todd one last time, and a murder investigation was launched soon after.
Initially, six suspects were named: Todd, George Shuttleworth, Summer Spellman, Christina Boyd, Gary Windass and Danielle Silverton. But last month, it was revealed to viewers that it was Sarah who appeared to deal the blow that sent a drunk Theo tumbling off the scaffolding outside his flat and plummeting to the ground, before she called on her former flame, Gary Windass, for help.
Corrie fans later watched as Sarah confessed the truth to Todd, while Kit remained determined to pin Theo's murder on Gary, not realising that he had been covering for Sarah. That was until she confessed to her copper beau last week, just as he was trying to pop the question.
Lisa warns Kit about his career
Despite Kit's attempts to help cover up her crime, Sarah was arrested on suspicion of killing Theo. Down at Weatherfield police station, Lisa interrogated Sarah before providing evidence that they had found splatters of Theo's blood on her clothing from the wedding. During the follow-up episode on Tuesday (July 21), Lisa questioned Sarah again, who continued to protest her innocence. But they had no choice but to charge Sarah with Theo's murder.
Lisa also made it clear to Kit that Sarah is their prime suspect and that he is also suspicious of helping his partner cover up the murder after he was spotted trying to get his hands on Sarah's clothes from the evidence store. Lisa warned him that if he wanted to keep his career, he needed to stop trying to protect Sarah. Kit didn't take kindly to Lisa's comments, bringing up her own past, particularly with her ex-wife, Becky Swain. Later, Kit advised Sarah to plead self-defence and tell everyone that Gary forced her to cover up Theo's death.
Fans react to Kit's comments
Despite Sarah's ongoing drama, Corrie fans were fuming at Kit's comments towards Lisa and flocked to social media to comment. @missmollybruton said: "'She helped saved Carla from Becky remember, or does that not count for anything?' Kit bringing this up when he knows that Sarah did kill Theo is awful. Yes, Sarah helped back then, but it doesn't change the here and now and it certainly doesn't mean Lisa has to ignore the facts."
