Hundreds of easyJet passengers are stranded in Morocco after a technical issue cancelled their flight to Manchester Airport. The travellers were set to return on Wednesday (June 10) but will now spend another night in Marrakech after the aircraft was grounded.
Adam Ramouz, from Salford, described watching the plane being 'tugged away' as he waited to board at Marrakesh Menara Airport. The 35-year-old said the flight was already delayed by two hours when it arrived, and after passengers from Manchester disembarked, he and others waited another two hours before the aircraft was removed. They were not informed of the cancellation until late afternoon, nearly ten hours after the scheduled departure.
Passengers have been placed in temporary accommodation, but Ramouz said the system caused confusion, leaving some families without rooms. 'Over 200 people were trying to get information from one easyJet rep after we got the email,' he said. He added that he and his partner had to arrange care for his mother, for whom he is a full-time carer.
EasyJet confirmed that flight EZY2294 from Marrakech to Manchester was rescheduled to Thursday (June 11) due to the technical issue affecting crew safety hours. The airline apologised for the inconvenience and said it was providing hotel accommodation and meals for affected passengers.
