However, the match was not without controversy. ITV was forced to apologise after Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk was caught swearing during a pre-match team talk. With cameras close to the squad, viewers heard him say, “We worked so hard to be here. Let’s f***ing do this together, come on.” ITV quickly issued an apology, but fans criticised the network, with one writing on X: “We live in a time of wet wipes.” Another said: “Stop apologising for bad language when covering sports. You poked a camera into a team talk, what did you expect?”
