YouTube to Automatically Label AI-Generated Videos from This Month
YouTube Rolls Out Automatic AI Labels for Videos

YouTube is rolling out more prominent AI disclosure labels and an automatic detection system for AI-generated or AI-edited content, starting this month. If creators fail to disclose AI use, YouTube may automatically apply a label, especially for content featuring significant photorealistic AI use.

New Label Placement

For long-form videos, the AI tag will appear directly beneath the video player, while on YouTube Shorts, it will be a visible overlay during playback. Creators can adjust labels, but some will be permanent, such as for content made with YouTube's own generative AI tools or those with C2PA metadata.

Purpose and Impact

These labels aim to provide viewers with immediate context about AI-generated content but will not affect video recommendations or monetisation. YouTube says the system is designed to enhance transparency and help viewers identify AI-generated material more easily.
