Almost 4,000 people have signed a petition to Parliament calling for a nationwide ban on the sale of disposable barbecues, as wildfires continue to ravage many areas of the UK following recent hot weather.
The petition states: "We want the Government to introduce a nationwide ban on the sale of single-use disposable barbecues. Disposable BBQs are increasingly linked to preventable wildfires, which poses a serious risk to public safety, wildlife, and emergency services. Also, disposable BBQs contribute to unnecessary waste."
Petition demands
It adds: "With increasing pressure on waste management systems and growing climate-related fire risk, we believe action is needed to reduce avoidable harm caused by these products. We are therefore asking the Government to: 1. Introduce a UK-wide ban on the sale of disposable BBQs, 2. Encourage safer, reusable alternatives through public guidance, 3. Work with retailers to support the transition away from single-use outdoor cooking products."
