Zigazig Ah looks to be tuned up to secure victory in the Weatherbys Super Sprint Stakes at Newbury on Saturday afternoon. The always-competitive five-furlong feature for two-year-olds at the Berkshire track looks typically wide-open with several in with a chance. Trainer Richard Spencer may hold the key with two runners: Etienne and Zigazig Ah.
Etienne was just touched off by a short-head from Weekend Roar in a Novice Stakes over six furlongs at Newcastle last month, is higher up in the betting and looks sure to build on that debut effort stepped back down to five furlongs. But Zigazig Ah has also looked good in her two starts so far and the drop back to the minimum distance can see her in an even better light.
Zigazig Ah's Form and Prospects
The daughter of Rajasinghe was beaten half-a-length by Ron's Angel on her racecourse debut at Lingfield over six furlongs at the start of last month. She stepped up again on that effort to comfortably land her maiden again over six furlongs at Yarmouth. She was always prominent before leading two furlongs out and staying on well for victory over Rocsane. She looks a speedy type who should be able to lay up with the pace of this frenetic contest and despite taking a keen hold at Yarmouth she can build on that experience to land the valuable pot.
Stable-mate Etienne could easily bring up a one-two for Spencer. While Rollthedicebaby – from the Richard Hannon stable which has won this contest 11 times with both father and son in charge – could go well having won at Goodwood last month. Stuart Williams' Holi Scarlett and the Clive Cox-trained Sky Secret – a winner at Leicester in May – are others who make up a fairly lengthy short-list of potential winners.
Symbol Of Honour to Bounce Back
Godolphin's Symbol Of Honour can bounce back to form with another course and distance victory in the Group Three Hallgarten And Novum Wines Hackwood Stakes at 3.02pm. The Charlie Appleby-trained four-year-old grey won a Listed contest over this six furlongs last May before landing the Group Two Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock Park later that month.
Symbol Of Honour didn't quite go on from there when stepped up to Group One company, finishing eighth in both the July Cup at Newmarket and the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville later on that summer. He has not won since that Haydock success but after a couple runs at Meydan earlier this year, he ran with great credit on his first start back in Britain when third at Newcastle in the Group Three Chipchase Stakes. He can build on that and return to winning ways under Liverpool FC fan William Buick.
Other Newbury Selections
The Hannon-trained Persica can win the opener at Newbury, the Listed BetVictor Steventon Stakes at 1.55pm. The five-year-old won the Diomed Stakes at Epsom last year and was beaten by the improving and impressive Sallaal in this season's renewal last month. Things look ideal for the gelded son of New Bay to resume winning ways.
Baileys Khelstar can bring up a hat-trick of victories in the Pertemps Handicap at 2.25pm. The Charlie Johnston-trained six-year-old was out injured all last year but has returned in fine form winning his last two. He beat the reopposing Almuhit last month before following up at Kempton earlier this month. Baileys Khelstar can land the treble ahead of Roger Varian's Ride The Thunder.
The William Haggas-trained Manaar – a winner over 1m1f at the Berkshire course on her debut – can score again stepped up slightly in trip to 1m2f in the Darley EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes at 4.12pm.
Others who can win at Newbury are the Spencer-trained Can't Stop in the BetVictor EBF Novice Stakes at 4.47pm; and another from Johnston's Middleham stable seeking a hat-trick Velvet Rhythm in the finale, the British Stallion Studs EBF Premier Fillies' Handicap at 5.20pm.
Ripon and Newmarket Tips
At Ripon David O'Meara's Prince Of The Seas can land a well-earned win in the Ripon Bell-Ringer Handicap at 3.15pm. The four-year-old has been running well this season without winning but can go one better than when second over an extended 1m5f at Hamilton last week.
Michael Bell's Wild Violet can add victory in the Sky Bet Go-Racing-In-Yorkshire Summer Festival Handicap at 3.53pm to his success at Salisbury last month.
Chris Dwyer's Jimmy Speaking can get back to the form of his two victories earlier in the season to land the Sky Bet For The Fans Handicap at 4.25pm.
Others who can score at the Yorkshire track are Ollie Sangster's Mohmentous in the Napoleons Casino And Restaurant Leeds Handicap at 5.03pm; the Tim Easterby-trained Stoneacre Joe in the Simon's 20 Year Heart Transplant Anniversary Maiden Stakes at 2.40pm; and Get Up Everybody – from the Paul Midgley stable – in the finale, the Aldwark Manor Estate Luxury Yorkshire Hotel 'Confined' Handicap at 5.35pm.
At Newmarket the Ralph Beckett-trained Revoir can finally get her head in front this season in the Listed Ric And Mary Hambro Aphrodite Fillies' Stakes at 3.05pm, having been second on her two starts so far at Haydock and Pontefract.
Stuart Williams' I Still Have Faith is also win-less in seven starts in 2026 but may finally bounce back to land a first victory since October 2023 in the Lettergold Plastics Handicap at 3.52pm.
Others who can win at Headquarters are David O'Meara's Yes I'm Mali in the Club 26 At Ascot Handicap at 4.17pm; and the Alan King-trained John Harrison in the National Stud 'Confined' Handicap at 4.52pm.
Curragh Highlights
At the Curragh Amelia Earhart can bounce back from her Epsom disappointment to win the Group One Juddmonte Irish Oaks at 4.35pm. Aidan O'Brien's daughter of the stable's 2012 Derby hero Camelot impressed when winning the Listed Cheshire Oaks at Chester's May Festival. But she was only sixth to the reopposing Thundering On – trained by O'Brien's son Joseph – in the Betfred Oaks at Epsom. Back on a better surface and less idiosyncratic track she can reverse form and land a first Group One victory.
Paddy Twomey's One Look can grab another course and distance win in the Group Three Al Shira'aa Racing Meadow Court Stakes at 2.15pm.
Michael O'Callaghan's Red Evolution can win the Liverpool FC Foundation Scurry Handicap at 2.50pm; while George Boughey's Rosy Affair – a good fourth in the King Charles III Stakes at last month's Royal Ascot – can go a couple of places better dropped down in grade in the Group Two Tulfarris Hotel And Golf Resort Sapphire Stakes at 3.25pm.
Aidan O'Brien's Confucius – beaten when sent off favourite for Coventry Stakes at the Royal meeting – can resume winning ways in the Group Two GAIN Railway Stakes at 4pm.
