Motorsport Star Kylie Marie Walton Provides Health Update Following Terrifying Truck Fire
Off-road racing driver and model Kylie Marie Walton has shared a detailed update on her condition after a harrowing accident last month that saw her Monster Energy-sponsored truck burst into flames during practice. The incident occurred in the days leading up to the San Felipe 250 in Baja California, when a fuel cell unexpectedly exploded, engulfing the vehicle in fire.
Dramatic Rescue and Hospitalisation
Walton was driving with fellow off-road racer and Monster Energy Girl Janey Lee when the explosion happened. In the chaotic aftermath, Lee became trapped inside the blazing wreckage after her seat belts failed to release properly. Displaying remarkable bravery, Walton managed to pull her colleague from the fiery vehicle, likely saving her life. Both women were rushed to hospital in the San Diego area for emergency treatment.
Walton has since been discharged from medical care and is recovering at home surrounded by her family, including her parents and sister. In an emotional Instagram post on Monday, she thanked fans for their overwhelming support during this challenging period.
'I just wanted to take a moment to check in and say thank you from the bottom of my heart for the ongoing prayers, messages, and support. It truly means more to me than I can explain,' Walton wrote in her social media caption.
Severe Injuries and Ongoing Recovery
The accident left both drivers with serious injuries requiring surgical intervention. Walton sustained severe burns to her hands that necessitated an operation, as shown in a video she posted where medical professionals were changing her dressings. She revealed she is currently 'focusing on healing, resting, and taking things one day at a time.'
Meanwhile, Janey Lee remains hospitalised as she continues her recovery journey. Her husband Eric previously disclosed that she suffered extensive burns to her legs and will require multiple surgeries. Walton visited her teammate in hospital last week while attending a doctor's appointment herself.
'It meant so much to check in on her and see how she’s doing in her recovery too,' Walton wrote about the visit. 'I know this road ahead is going to take time, but I’m so grateful to have all of you behind us.'
From Promotional Models to Racing Drivers
Lee and Walton are perhaps better known as members of the Monster Energy Girls, a squad of promotional models frequently seen at motorsport and MMA events. However, in recent years both women have transitioned from posing alongside athletes to competing themselves behind the wheel. They made their competitive debut in a SCORE International event last September.
The pair were preparing for last month's San Felipe 250 when the fuel cell reportedly exploded. SCORE International officials confirmed they became aware of the accident involving the competitors' pre-run vehicle in San Felipe.
In an official statement, the sanctioning body noted: 'Both are currently stable and receiving medical care. Thanks to the rapid response of those nearby, they received initial treatment locally before being transported to the United States for further emergency care.'
The statement continued: 'This sport is built on a tight community, and moments like this are felt across all of it. Our thoughts and prayers are with them, their families, and their teams.'
Community Support and Fundraising
Monster Energy also expressed support following the March incident, posting: 'Sending all our love and good vibes to Kylie and Janey.'
Walton has encouraged supporters to visit their Road 2 Recovery cause page or purchase limited-edition Kylie & Janey stickers to assist with medical expenses and recovery costs. She emphasised that such gestures 'truly help more than you know' during this difficult rehabilitation period.
The motorsport community continues to rally around both drivers as they navigate the long road to recovery from their traumatic experience.
