Horse Racing Tips: Red Spells Danger and Manatee Mehmas to Win

Red Spells Danger can bring up a hat-trick of victories in the Churchill Tyres Supporting Macmillan Sprint Handicap (3.35pm) at York on Saturday afternoon. While Manatee Mehmas can win the BetMGM Scurry Stakes (2.42pm) at Sandown Park.

York Races

Ahead of next week's Royal Ascot, Tim Easterby's Red Spells Danger can triumph on the Knavesmire in the six-furlong sprint. The three-year-old gelded son of Cotai Glory ran well without winning in his first six starts – all over seven furlongs – finishing third a couple of times as a juvenile. After two runner-up finishes at Catterick and Southwell in April, he won his Maiden at long odds-on, dropped back to six furlongs at Ripon in May. He readily followed up on his handicap debut a couple of weeks later, scoring by an impressive four lengths at Hamilton.

He looks to be progressing well and despite being up in class for this always-competitive contest, he can make it a quick-fire treble with victory ahead of chiefly the William Haggas-trained Kempton winner Thunder Call and Hugo Palmer's course and distance scorer Ruby's Angel, from the Manor House Stables owned by former Liverpool FC and England striker Michael Owen.

Back at York, Al Qareem can win the Listed Sky Bet Race To The Ebor Grand Cup Stakes (3pm) for the second successive season. Liverpool FC fan Karl Burke's seven-year-old is a prolific winner at this sort of level and over this sort of distance, 1m5½f. He won this contest last year – his third win on the Knavesmire, while he returned action this season with a victory in the Listed Goliath Cup Stakes at Musselburgh last month.

Al Qareem was only fifth to the smart Group One winner Jan Brueghel in the Group Three Ormonde Stakes at Chester's May Festival last time and the reopposing Mount Atlas was ahead of him that day in second. But back at York he can turn the tables on that rival to land another course and distance victory.

Bobby Bennu can win the Skybet Supporting Macmillan Handicap (2.25pm). The Roger Varian-trained five-year-old has not won since November 2024 at Lingfield – but he made a pleasing return to action when fourth despite being badly drawn in stall 12 over seven furlongs at Chester's May Festival last month. He has run well in some competitive handicaps, finishing second at Haydock Park last July and fifth at Ascot in September. Bobby Bennu can finally get his head back in front now down to 2lb below his last winning handicap mark.

Dunkeld Dreamer can land the opener on the Knavesmire, the Queen Mother's Cup Handicap (For Female Amateur Jockeys) (GBBPlus Race) (1.50pm). The Burke-trained three-year-old filly was a good second at Hamilton on her penultimate start and can go one place better at York.

Manila Scouse has been running well without winning recently, but the Tim Easterby-trained seven-year-old can get his head back in front in the finale, the Fordy Marshall Handicap (5.25pm). Manila Scouse was third at Hamilton and second at Thirsk last month and is only a 1lb higher than his last winning mark of 79, when he took a similar contest at Thirsk last July. He can return to winning ways on the Knavesmire.

Others who can win at York are the Charlie Appleby-trained newcomer Inner City Blues, to be ridden by Liverpool FC fan William Buick, in the EBF Maiden Stakes (GBB Race) (4.15pm); and the Craig Lidster-trained course scorer Billyb in the Ice Co Supporting Macmillan Handicap (4.50pm).

Sandown Races

David O'Meara's Manatee Mehmas can make it two wins from three starts in the Listed feature at Sandown. The three-year-old son of Mehmas won on his racecourse debut, scoring in good style in a Novice Stakes at Doncaster in April. Although he could only finish fourth to Dickensian in the Listed Westow Stakes at York last month, he ran well enough to suggest there is more to come. He can build on those two efforts to deny warm favourite – the Charlie Appleby-trained Words Of Truth – and secure a first Listed success.

Richard Hughes' Mohaaraj can bring up a hat-trick of successes in the opener, the Download The BetMGM App Handicap (1.32pm) following victories at Kempton in February and Haydock last month.

The Kevin Ryan-trained Karvala got off the mark at the second attempt at Thirsk at the start of last month, and the Pinatubo filly can follow that up with another success in the BetMGM Fillies' Handicap (2.05pm).

High Degree can build on a recent second to go one place better in the Read Meg Nicholls' Blog At betmgm.co.uk Handicap (3.17pm). The William Haggas-trained four-year-old gelded son of Too Darn Hot made a pleasing return to action when second over 1m2f at Newbury last month. Dropped back down to the mile over which he scored at Ffos Las last summer, High Degree can return to winning ways.

Others who can triumph at Sandown are Marco Botti's returning Sovereign Ocean in the Bet £10 Get £40 With BetMGM Handicap (3.55pm); and the John and Thady Gosden-trained duo, newcomer Humphrey, and Marnier in the Darley British EBF Maiden Stakes (GBB Race) (3.55pm); and the Gamble Responsibly At Betmgm Handicap (GBBPlus Race) (5.07pm) respectively.

Chester Races

At Chester, course and distance winner Rosenpur can score again in the John Smith's Handicap (4pm). The Jennie Candlish-trained six-year-old was a good winner over six furlongs at last month's May Festival on the Roodee. Dropped back to the minimum distance, Rosenpur can score again if his draw in stall eight doesn't prove too tricky.

Others who can score on the Roodee are the Hugo Palmer-trained well-drawn Ran Amok – from Owen's nearby Manor House Stables – in the opener, the Saturday Social Handicap (1.35pm); Charlie Johnston's Pride Of Donegal in the Colette, Lynn And Rachel's 50th Birthday Handicap (GBBPlus Race) (3.23pm); the Ed Walker-trained Jeddaal in the Ladbrokes Best Odds Guaranteed On Racing Handicap (2.10pm); and Havachoc – from the Knowsley Hall stable of Pat Morris – in the finale, the Summer Saturday On 27th June Handicap (GBBPlus Race) (5.12pm).

Bath Races

At Bath, the George Harris-trained Symbol Of Hope can win the Sky Pockets Townhouse Bath Handicap (2.30pm); Joe Ponting's course and distance scorer Endofastorm can go in again in the Support Ben Saunders Foundation Handicap (3.50pm); and another course and distance winner Time For Action – from David Flood's Gloucestershire stable – can triumph in the one-mile Al Basti Equiworld Handicap (4.27pm).
