A 20-year-old goalkeeper in Sweden has been shot dead, with his father issuing a heartbreaking tribute. Hugo Mosshagen played for Swedish fourth-tier side BK Forward and aspired to a professional football career.

Police were called to a residential area west of Örebro just before midnight on Saturday. Mosshagen was taken to hospital but later pronounced dead. Reports indicate he had no known gangland affiliations, leaving his parents in shock.

His father, Joakim Gunnarsson, told Swedish newspaper Expressen: “His big dream was to become a professional footballer. He put all his time into it and this year was going to be his year. It’s an emptiness. One second you’re really angry and the next you’re sad because you’ve lost one of your children in a completely unnecessary way.”

Mosshagen’s mother, Marie, added: “We feel that he is with God. We know that he is doing well up there. He had the responsibility. He did everything for his siblings. He was loved by many.”

BK Forward captain Josef Ibrahim described Mosshagen as a popular member of the dressing room, saying: “We will be strong and stick together. For the sake of Hugo and his family we will be there for each other and spread love.”
