Romero Hints at Tottenham Exit, Eyes La Liga Move

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has cast doubt on his future at the club, admitting he would 'love to play in La Liga' and is open to leaving at the end of the season. The Argentine vice-captain, who has two years left on his contract, has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid.

In an interview with Argentine journalist Gastón Edul, Romero said: 'I'd love to play La Liga. I'd love to, honestly. It depends on a lot of things. We'll see after the championship is over. The truth is, I haven't spoken to my agent yet, but I'm open to anything. My goal is always to grow and go to new places to continue developing.'

Romero also expressed a desire to return to his boyhood club, Club Atlético Belgrano, in the future. 'Yeah, I will go back to Belgrano and live there because all my family are there in Cordoba,' he added.

The 27-year-old's comments come as Tottenham languish in 16th place in the Premier League after an 18th defeat of the season against Nottingham Forest. However, the club are preparing for a Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt and could still secure Champions League football by winning the competition.

Romero, who was substituted at half-time against Forest alongside Micky van de Ven, remains focused on the immediate task. 'There are two months left until the end of the season and I'm always thinking about performing at my best. We're in the Europa League semi-finals. It's an important step for the club which hasn't reached this stage for so many years. I'd like to win it,' he said.
