Racing expert Newsboy has cast his eye over Tuesday's action, delivering a full set of selections for the day's two meetings at Wolverhampton and Southwell. His headline Nap comes in a staying contest at Wolverhampton, where he believes a seasoned campaigner can strike for an in-form yard.
Fascinating Shadow Tipped For Wolverhampton Glory
Newsboy's best bet of the day, his Nap, is Fascinating Shadow in the Midnite A Next Generation Betting App Handicap at 4.15pm. The race is run over an extended two miles on the all-weather track at Wolverhampton.
The eight-year-old gelding, trained by James Owen, arrives in fine form. He was a close second just three days ago at Southwell, keeping on well behind the well-backed favourite Nunc Set Bibendum. He races off the same handicap mark today and has previously shown he can perform to a high level after a short break.
Last month, he finished second at Lingfield over 1 mile 5 furlongs and then returned to all-weather action just five days later. In that subsequent race, he showed tremendous grit, being headed a furlong from home but fighting back bravely to win by half a length. With the yard in good heart and the experienced Pat Cosgrave taking the ride, Newsboy expects a big run.
Progressive Augustus Gloop Handicap Debut
The next best selection (NB) on the Wolverhampton card is Augustus Gloop in the Bet 10 Get 40 With BetMGM Handicap at 3.15pm. This three-year-old colt makes his handicap debut after a 100-day break for trainer James Fanshawe.
A son of the top sire St Mark's Basilica, he showed plenty of promise as a juvenile. On his third and final start last season, he won a novice event at Newcastle very easily. Newsboy believes the horse has been given a very competitive opening handicap mark and could take all the beating in this six-furlong contest.
