Rory McIlroy Reveals Unique Masters Champions Dinner Menu

Reigning Masters champion Rory McIlroy has unveiled his highly anticipated menu for the prestigious champions dinner at Augusta National, set to take place on 7 April. The Northern Irish golfer, who will host fellow past winners in the annual clubhouse gathering, has crafted a personal and symbolic selection of dishes and wines to celebrate his 2025 victory.

Elk Sliders as a Tribute to Success

In a surprising twist, McIlroy will serve grilled elk sliders with caramelised onion jam and roasted garlic aioli as appetisers. He explained that elk became a key part of his diet during the buildup to last year's Masters triumph. "In the buildup to the Masters last year, I was eating a lot of elk," McIlroy said. "I got this big shipment of elk and I was eating a lot of that. I didn't want elk to be the main course because I didn't know if everyone would like that. So I incorporated that into the appetisers."

Childhood Memories and Family Touches

The menu deeply reflects McIlroy's upbringing in Belfast. Alongside the elk sliders, starters will include Rosie McIlroy's bacon-wrapped dates, a dish made by his mother. For the main course, guests can choose between wagyu filet mignon or seared salmon, preceded by a yellowfin tuna carpaccio inspired by the New York restaurant Le Bernardin.

McIlroy revealed that Augusta National chefs made a special trip to the restaurant to perfect the tuna recipe, showcasing the club's meticulous attention to detail. He described it as a favourite dish he always orders, making it a meaningful addition to the evening.

Traditional Northern Irish Side Dish

Accompanying the main courses will be champ, a traditional Northern Irish side made with mashed potatoes and scallions. "When I was a kid I used to eat champ by the bowlful," McIlroy recalled. "So trying to tie in a little bit of my upbringing there." This inclusion adds a heartfelt, nostalgic element to the meal, connecting his golfing success to his roots.

Thoughtfully Selected Wines

McIlroy, known for his passion for wine, has curated a selection of four wines for the dinner. Notably, he included a Bordeaux from 1989, the year of his birth, and one from 1990. "That is the wine I drank the night I won the Masters, so brings back some great memories," he said. He emphasised his intentional approach, working closely with Augusta's sommeliers to choose wines that reflect his personal collection and experiences.

Defending His Title

Following the dinner, McIlroy will begin his Masters defence on 9 April, aiming to build on his 2025 victory. The champions dinner tradition, where the reigning champion selects the menu, offers a unique insight into the personal tastes and stories behind golf's elite, with McIlroy's choices highlighting his journey from Belfast to Augusta glory.
