Manchester United have received a significant injury boost with the return of Lisandro Martinez to full first-team training. The Argentine defender has been sidelined since February 10 with a calf injury, missing the last five matches. His comeback was confirmed via the club's social media channels on Tuesday, showing him training with the squad in Dublin.
Martinez has made only 15 appearances this season, having previously recovered from an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in February 2024. He is a key player at centre-back when fit, but has also spent months out following surgery on a fractured metatarsal. Interim head coach Michael Carrick will hope Martinez is available for the season run-in as United aim to secure a Champions League spot, currently sitting third in the Premier League.
United are on a four-day training camp in Dublin during a 24-day period without a match due to the international break and FA Cup quarter-finals. Patrick Dorgu also travelled as he continues rehabilitation from a hamstring injury, while forwards Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo are included after withdrawing from international duty with knocks. However, Matthijs de Ligt remains absent with a lingering back injury that has kept him out since November, and Carrick has admitted uncertainty over his return.
Full-backs Diogo Dalot and goalkeeper Tom Heaton stayed behind due to illness. Carrick is due to hold a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, with United resuming their Premier League campaign at home against Leeds United on April 13. Harry Maguire, whose contract extension was announced on Tuesday, is suspended for that match after a red card against Bournemouth.
