Former Red Devil Tipped for Sensational Old Trafford Return

Manchester United are being encouraged to make a surprising move in the January transfer window, with former striker Danny Welbeck touted as the perfect mentor for their new signing, Benjamin Sesko. The recommendation comes from pundit Don Hutchison, who believes the Brighton forward could play a transformative role at his old club.

Sesko's Promising Start and Recent Struggles

The Red Devils made a significant investment in their attacking line during the summer, securing Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig after beating competition from Newcastle United. The Slovenian international has made 12 appearances across all competitions so far this season, contributing two goals and one assist.

However, the 22-year-old's progress hit a setback in United's last match before the international break – a 2-2 draw away at Tottenham. Sesko was brought on as a second-half substitute but was quickly withdrawn due to a suspected knee injury. The injury prevented him from joining his national team, and he has spent the break working on his recovery.

Reports indicate the striker remains several weeks away from full fitness, meaning he's likely to miss crucial matches after the international break concludes.

The Case for Welbeck's Return

As January approaches, transfer speculation is intensifying, and Welbeck's name has emerged as a potential target. Don Hutchison has strongly advocated for the move, drawing parallels with Jonny Evans' successful return to the club.

"I mean, it'd be a brilliant fit," Hutchison stated in an interview with SportCasting. "He'd be a fantastic signing because Danny Welbeck's one of those players where, if he went back to Man United, it would be like when Jonny Evans returned."

Hutchison emphasized that Welbeck possesses the right attitude and current form to make an impact. "He can still play, he can still score goals, he's still really fit. But he would still have the attitude where it would be a fantastic move forward, being back at Man United with the knowledge that he'd be mentoring the likes of Sesko. I think it would be a perfect move."

Welbeck progressed through United's academy and made over 140 first-team appearances before departing for Arsenal in 2014. After a stint at Watford, he joined Brighton in 2020, where he has experienced a career revival. This season has been particularly productive, with the 34-year-old scoring six times in 11 Premier League appearances.

This isn't the first time a return to Old Trafford has been suggested for Welbeck, with similar speculation emerging around this time last year. However, there is currently no concrete evidence to suggest United are actively planning a move for the experienced striker.
