Amorim Hints at Crunch Talks After Grimsby Humiliation

Ruben Amorim has suggested that serious discussions about his Manchester United future will take place soon, following the club's humiliating Carabao Cup exit to League Two side Grimsby Town. The Red Devils suffered a shock penalty shootout defeat, marking the biggest upset of the competition so far.

Grimsby took a 2-0 lead in the first half amid heavy rain, and were denied a third goal that should have stood. Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire took the match to penalties, where Mbeumo's second attempt hit the crossbar, sealing United's fate. This is the first time in over a decade United have been eliminated in the second round, a humiliation not seen since Louis van Gaal's 4-0 loss to MK Dons.

United's start to the season has been dismal, with no victories yet. After the match, Amorim twice conceded he plans to discuss his future with the club after Saturday's Premier League game against Burnley. Speaking to MUTV, he said: 'In the end, the penalties don't matter. After the game, the penalties if you win or you lose, the feeling should be the same.' He added: 'Let's focus on the next game and then we have time to think about things.'

Amorim expressed disappointment at the decline in his players since their opening day 1-0 loss to Arsenal. 'I would like to say very smart things and very important things,' he said. 'I have nothing to say. That is the biggest problem also. To see the same mistakes and nothing to say in this moment. I'm really sorry for our fans. It's too much sometimes.'

United have managed just one point so far, following a 1-1 draw at Fulham. A stumble against Burnley this weekend could plunge the club into chaos, with only two weeks left before a daunting visit to Manchester City.
