Alejandro Garnacho has turned down a move to Aston Villa as part of the deal that will see Morgan Rogers head to Chelsea for £117m, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Manchester United academy graduate, now at Chelsea, reportedly received enquiries from Villa but prefers a switch to Serie A side Roma.
The 22-year-old Argentinian winger made 43 appearances for Chelsea last season, scoring eight goals and providing four assists. Roma are interested in a loan with an option to buy, and Chelsea would be willing to sell for around £42.5m.
Garnacho's rejection of a swap-plus-cash offer for Rogers is good news for United, who sold him for £40m last summer with a 10% sell-on clause. If Garnacho is sold in a straight cash move, United would receive a financial boost from that clause.
United registered pure profit under the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules from Garnacho's sale due to his academy graduate status. Any sell-on income would also count as pure profit.
United have already strengthened their squad with Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, and additional funds could help them land further transfer targets as they prepare for Champions League football.
